Kris Brown

Kris Brown:

For the first time in their eight-year history, the Texans have a problem with their kicker. Kris Brown, the last original Texan on the current roster, has been so good the coaches never bring in competition at training camp. Based on his last two games, the Texans might think about auditioning some kickers.

In a 20-17 loss at Indianapolis before the bye week, Brown missed a 42-yard field goal try as time expired. Monday night against Tennessee, Brown missed a 49-yarder with one second left that would have forced overtime in another 20-17 defeat. Earlier, he missed another 49-yarder. That's well within Brown’s range. He kicked a 56-yard field goal against the Colts. Brown has been inconsistent this season. He has had two kicks blocked. He has the same holder in punter Matt Turk. He has a new snapper in tight end Joel Dreessen. On the last two misses, the snap and hold were perfect.

"I need to figure out what the heck is going on, and I need to figure it out pretty quick," Brown said.
