Chaffey College:
Chaffey College Community Education Department will hold its Third Annual ‘She 4 Me’ Wellness, Leadership, and Technology Conference on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 8:00am – 2:00pm at the Chino Main Instructional Building. The She 4 Me Wellness, Leadership, and Technology Conference is a STEM focused, mentoring event for young ladies ages 8-18 with the goal of bringing together women and girls of diverse backgrounds to inspire future community leaders and encourage scholarship in the sciences. It furthers the emphasis of the current Administration of driving student achievement in STEM education throughout all U.S. schools and in particular among young women.
The event will feature engaging, fun and interactive workshops designed to encourage young women in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics – the STEM subjects. Workshops being planned include ACURA Design Engineering, Cal Poly Pomona’s Society of Women Engineers, City of Chino Hills Library, MESA, and Chaffey College’s Fashion and Design Department, among others. Last year, the young ladies participated in a science activity and mixed their own lip gloss.
“We are preparing to welcome 300 young ladies for a day of learning, fun, and enlightenment,” Karen Childers with Chaffey College said. “The conference is important to excite the girls in our community about science, technology, engineering and mathematics and prepare them for lucrative careers.”
Registration for the She 4 Me Conference is $25.00 and includes registration for a student and parent/guardian, continental breakfast, the workshops, and lunch. Early bird registration is encouraged before April 5th at www.chaffey.edu/communityed or by calling (909)652-7771 or find the conference on facebook.com/she 4 me.
Business participation and sponsorships are needed. Businesses are welcome to donate a scholarship for a young lady in need or participate in a workshop or host an information booth pertaining to the innovative sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. For sponsorship opportunities, please call Angela Turner (909)569-1818.
WECTECC activities are funded by the Governor’s Career Technical Education Initiative (SB 70/SB1133) presented through with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office and the California Department of Education.
