Abby Elliott:
Abby ElliottLatest updates Chris Elliott, Abby Elliot, Michelle Rodriguez,Avatar, Michelle Rodriguez Avatar There are few TV jobs quite as crappy as being a first-year cast member on Saturday Night Live. They’re called “Featured Players” but they’re featured mostly in the show’s closing credits, where they get to stand on stage and wave at the studio audience. They rarely get any screen time, and when they do it tends to be bit parts—a waitress or a bartender or a shocked bystander with no dialogue. Basically, the throwaway roles that nobody in the real cast could be bothered with. When they do get to strut their comedy wares, it can be disconcerting.
They’re like the guy nobody knows at a party who gets too tipsy and becomes the loudest person in the room. Even if they’re genuinely funny, it’s difficult not to be a little annoyed by them. “And just who the fuck are you?”
Abby Elliott joined Saturday Night Live last September for the show’s 34th season, although she didn’t make her official premiere until November 15, when she played the pivotal role of “girl holding clapboard” in a BeyoncĂ© sketch. Since then, she’s had a scattershot of memorable SNL moments, most notably a fantastic and slightly creepy impression of Angelina Jolie.
(The way she says “I could always use a new baby” is guaranteed to send chills down your spine.) She’s funny, but then again so was Cheri Oteri and what the hell ever happened to her? If you’re the gambling sort, Elliott has all the stats of a winning pony:
she’s an SNL legacy (her father, Chris Elliott, was in the cast during the mid-90s) and the fourth youngest cast member in SNL history (after Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Anthony Michael Hall). Also, she’s cute as a button. That may not ensure a long career in movies and TV, but it doesn’t hurt.
