UGA VII

As beloved mascot dies at an early age, should breeding methods be reevaluated

Sonny Seiler said it best Thursday night: "No one could have predicted this."

Georgia Bulldog Nation is in a state of mourning following the sudden death of mascot Uga VII, only two seasons into his time here.

Though Uga VII was 20 pounds lighter than his father - more than 70 pounds - maybe it is time to re-evaluate how these dogs are bred.

Maybe it's time to think smaller and leaner. No one wants to have to bury another Uga every few years. That takes the majesty out of having the greatest mascot in the country. And then nobody wins.
