Ever since DeShawn Stevenson called LeBron James overrated back in 2008, I’ve suspected that he might not be wound too tight. This wasn’t too far-fetched a notion, considering the facial hair war he waged against Drew Gooden that season and some of the other circumstances that surrounded him at the time. Stevenson spent a good bit of last season on injured reserve, as did Gilbert Arenas and a number of other Wizards, which allowed him to drift out of the public eye. Out of sight, out of mind. Now that the team’s health has improved, it is assumed that their winning percentage will follow suit. And Stevenson and Co. are back to give us something to talk about around the water cooler and on message boards. Arenas claims that his days in the spotlight are done and he will let his game do the talking from now on. Almost on cue, Stevenson’s neck and face stepped in to grab the attention that the former Agent Zero relinquished. And now I’m also certain that something isn’t quite right about Stevenson. He has some new ink, most notably a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on his neck, with a "5" on each side. There is also a crack on his foreheadâ€" which somehow symbolizes that he doesn’t crack under pressureâ€" and a backwards red P on his left cheek. There are already rumors surfacing about the P (or the q if you’re being technical) and the 5s being gang related. Perhaps coincidentally, JR Smith, another heavily tattooed player, was accused of throwing gang signs mid-game and Tweeting in a manner allegedly similar to that of gangsters. I’m no expert on the subject, but it has to be pointed out. Draw your own conclusions. In the meantime, Stevenson is predicting 50 wins for his team. It’s not outlandish, seeing that the team will get three starters back who missed most or all of the season and a few solid role players to fill out their roster. So I can’t really knock him for it. In fact, I might even agree and add that they could take the Southeastern Division crown from Orlando, the defending Eastern Conference Champions. If everything lined up for them, of course.
