Herriman Fire

Some 1,400 homes have been evacuated as a wildfire moves in on Herriman.
All Salt Lake County residents are asked not to use cell phones to keep lines free for emergency responders as a wildfire burns homes in Herriman, authorities said.
Salt Lake County sheriff’s Lt. Don Hutson said he was assisting evacuations somewhere south of Butterfield Park Drive (14200 South) about 8:30 p.m. when he saw homes catching fire.
“It’s chaos,” Hutson said.
Evacuations have expanded to include all addresses in a zone bounded by the county line at the south, 14000 South on the North, 5575 West on the east and 8400 West on the west, according to Herriman City emergency management coordinators. All Rose Canyon Road, south of Butterfield Park Drive (14200 South) and south of Emmeline Drive as far east as Black Ridge Reservoir were under mandatory evacuation as of 8:15 p.m., said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Brad Taylor.
The evacuation center itself moved to Herriman High School, 11917 S. Mustang Trail Way (6000 West), as evacuation zones neared the former center at Fort Herriman Middle School.
All 500 homes in the High Country Estates II subdivision and the 232 homes in The Cove at Herriman Springs have remained under mandatory evacuation since 5 p.m., Taylor said. Fire and police crews were going door-to-door to make sure all residents had left.
West bound 13400 South at 5600 West is shut down, according to Herriman City emergency management coordinators
