Justified FX:
FX has announced the March premiere (date to be announced) of crime drama 'Justified,' formerly called 'Lawman,' starring Timothy Olyphant.According to an article in the Hartford Courant, FX changed the show's name so it wouldn't be confused with the reality show 'Steven Seagal: Lawman,' which premieres Dec. 2 on A&E.
A press release detailing the network's mid-season line-up describes Olyphant's character, Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, as "a modern-day 19th century-style lawman enforcing his brand of justice in a way that puts a target on his back with criminals and places him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service."
The show was developed by Graham Yost ('Boomtown,' 'Speed') and is based on the popular character featured in several books and short stories by novelist Elmore Leonard, who is on board as an executive producer. FX has ordered 13 episodes of the series, which is shot in Los Angeles.
The role shouldn't be too much of a stretch for Olyphant, who is perhaps best-known for portraying 19th century sheriff Seth Bullock in HBO's 'Deadwood' in 2004-2006. In that show, Olyphant's upright character initially came to town as a merchant, but was pulled into law enforcement by his disgust with the the town's general lawlessness and the crooked brand of justice dished out by its former sheriff. It should be interesting to see how much (if any) of Bullock turns up in Olyphant's new lawman.
