As the new school year creeps closer the threat of
Swine flu begins to concern many parents. OSU has reported nine cases of the the H1N1 virus within a weeks time.As of Aug. 13, there were 7,511 reported cases of
swine flu and 477 deaths in relation to
swine flu in the United States, according the Center for Disease Controlâs Web site at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/update.htm Wichita schools have taken precautionary steps to alleviate the threat of the virus. Plans may include mass vaccinations at schools and creation of "isolation rooms" to quarantine sick students. Twenty to 40 percent of the state's population â" up to 1.1 million Kansans â" could be infected with H1N1 within the next two years, The state has about 450,000 students in its public schools.
